Aerial FAQ's Satellite FAQ's Remotes FAQ's AV Sender FAQ's Omnidirectional Aerial FAQ's Freeview HD Coverage's TV Link FAQ's
Q.1 What type of aerial do I require at my location?
A.1 Gain and aerial choice depend on the proximity to the transmitter and can also depend the type of installation. IE Loft or outdoor. An outdoor installation will enable a clear line of sight to the transmitter, and will generally perform better than a loft installed aerial. To check the distance from the transmitter and to obtain a compass bearing to the transmitter please check the following website: http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/postcodechecker/
The greater the distance from the transmitter, the higher the gain of aerial is required. The shorter the distance to the transmitter the less gain is usually required.
Q.2 Which aerial produces more gain a 32 element, 48 element or a 52 element version?
A.2 Generally the higher the number of elements, the more gain the aerial will produce. This applies to the 32, 48 and 52 element aerial.
Q.3 What can I do to check the level of signal and quality of signal?
A.3 In a digital set up, the majority of set top boxes and TV's with inbuilt digital tuners will have a signal strength and a signal quality meter contained within in the set up menu.
Q.4 What can I do to improve a weak signal?
A.4 To increase the gain of an existing set up fit a Signal booster or Mast head amplifier
Q.5 What can I do to reduce gain?
A.5 Fit an inline attenuator
Q.6 Are the 32, 48 and 52 element aerials compatible with Digital and analogue TV?
A.6 Yes the aerials are fully compatible with existing analogue and digital TV set ups . The aerials are CAI approved, considered suitable for Digital equipment and are also approved to the Digital Tick Scheme. Please visit http://www.dtg.org.uk/ for further information.
Q.7 I have been told that I need a wideband digital aerial to get digital tv in my area. Is this correct?
A.7 If you are having problems receiving digital TV from existing set ups then an upgrade to a wideband aerial is usually recommended. Existing group aerials may be unsuitable to receive the full bandwidth that digital TV is broadcasted on now and in the future.
Q.8 Where can I obtain more information about Digital TV and aerials?
A.8 Please try the following links:-
N.B Professional installation is preferred due to accurate alignment of the dish.
Digital meters are available, which can help with accurate positioning.
A useful overlay tool which uses google maps is dish pointer:

The Video sender will send any standard definition signal on composite or scart and Stereo Audio signals.
For instance the unit can send a signal from the scart output of a Sky HD box or Sky+ box.
(The output of the scart will need to be enabled from the SKY HD menu- the same applies to TV's)
N.B. Composite/scart video senders will not send HD signals from HDMI outputs as this operates on a different signal transmission basis.
There are a number of ways the unit can be connected:-
Basic methods:
Direct Connection
Connecting direct to composite equipped devices. IE DVD, sat- connection to be made using composite to composite (red, white, yellow) connection of Video Sender direct to the source. (DVD/Sat-----Video Sender)
Connecting direct to Scart devices IE Satellite unit- connect using scart adapter
1) Plug scart adapter into source equipment scart output IE SKY/HD etc.
2) Connect composite leads to the adapter - (enable scart output from source) - connect scart to scart from adapter to TV.
IE Connection will be routed Scart output to composite to the sender (Red- Right Audio, White-Left Audio, and Yellow-Video) from the scart adapter.
DVD/SAT------------output-------------Scart Adapter----------R,L,V output-----------Video sender Input Scart Adapter----------Scart Output-----------TV Input
N.B Composite video output and RGB video output are not the same and are not directly compatible with each other To send Digital TV to another room direct from Set Top Box:
Connect in the same method to the Set top box, enable scart output if applicable.
Set top box------------output-------------Scart Adapter----------R,L,V output-----------Video sender Input Scart Adapter----------Scart Output-----------TV Input
To send from the TV tuner direct
Plug scart adapter into the TV scart output. Enable scart TV output in TV settings/scart routing menu. Connect video sender unit direct (using L,R,V) to scart adapter plugged into TV to accept and send TV signal direct.
TV Scart Output (enabled)------------output-------------Scart Adapter----------R,L,V output-----------Video sender Input
N.B The TV must be on to use the internal tuner.
Connection of Audio Source (x 2 Mono signals or Stereo Signal)
Stereo systems etc
To connect an CD player or Stereo
Connect Outputs- IE- Left and Right RCA output to RCA input on Video Sender.
Omnidirectional VHF/FM Aerial
Slacken off the nuts on the U-bolt attached to the omnidirectional aerial and mount the aerial on a pole.
Tighten the nuts loosely to secure in place, allowing enough slack to enable rotation of the aerial.
Remove the dipole insulator lid and feed one end of your coaxial cable through the hole in the lid.
Trim one inch of outer sheath from the cable and twist the braid into a bunch. Remove the foil screen.
Trim ½ inch of plastic shielding away to reveal the core cable.
Attach the braid bunch to the left brass connector and the core to the right.
Replace the insulator lid, and rotate aerial to gain optimum reception before tightening nuts securely.
Your installation is now complete.
Safety Note
Before commencing installation, ensure that the structure is sound.

tvLINK allows you to watch your Sky channels on a second TV in your home and is compatible with your Sky box and with most TVs. We've put together three easy-to-follow help guides for tvLINK, depending on the system you have - see the links to our downloadable PDFs on this page.
If your Sky tvLink is not working, first check that it is receiving power through its RF connector. The RF outlet power supply is a trip switch, so the process of isolating the power to the tvLINK then restoring it usually resolves this type of problem.
Is your RF cable incorrectly routed?
1. Please note that this process will stop all the recordings currently in progress and reboot your Sky box, so if a recording is underway, you may wish to wait until the recording is complete before continuing
2. Switch your Sky box to standby. If you have a cordless telephone connected to the same socket as your Sky box, you only need to unplug your Sky box
3. If you're using a Sky+ or Sky+HD box, wait for 30 seconds to allow the hard disk to stop spinning
4. Switch off or unplug your Sky box at the mains
5. Check that there are no lights illuminated on the front panel of your Sky box
6. Ensure the tvLINK cable is a continuous connection from the RF Out-2 connector at the back of set top box (the maximum recommended length of cabling is 30m metres)
7. Switch the power supply back on at the mains. When the red light appears:
• Wait 30 seconds if you're using a Sky digital box
• Wait 60 seconds if you're using a Sky+ box
• Wait 2 minutes and 30 seconds if you're using a Sky+HD box
8. Press tv followed by sky on your Sky remote control
9. Select the channel on the second TV which Sky is normally viewed on
10. Using your second Sky remote control press tv, then sky, then the numbers 5,0,1
Never attempt to reconnect the tvLINK cable to the RF Out-2 connector at the back of your Sky box while it is still receiving power from the mains. The tvLINK receives 9 volts from the set top box and by doing so could cause irreparable damage to the tvLINK.
Switch your Sky box to standby, and wait for 30 seconds to allow the hard disk to stop spinning. Now you need to unplug your Sky box, or turn it off at the mains. Please note that this process will stop any recordings in progress and reboot your Sky box. If a recording is underway, you may wish to wait until the recording has completed before carrying out this procedure. If you have a cordless telephone connected to the same telephone socket as your Sky box, you only need to unplug your Sky box, not the telephone. When you've switched off the power supply or removed the plug from the mains socket, check that there are no lights illuminated on the front panel of your Sky box.
Ensure the tvLINK cable makes a continuous connection from the RF Out-2 connector at the back of your Sky box (the maximum recommended length of cabling is 30m metres) to your second TV.
Switch the power supply back on at the mains. When the red light appears:
• Wait for 30 seconds if you are using a Sky digibox.
• Wait for 60 seconds if you are using a Sky+ box.
• Wait for 2 minutes and 30 seconds if you are using a Sky+HD box.
Press tv followed by sky on your Sky remote control.
Select the TV channel on which you normally view Sky.
Press tv on your second Sky remote control, then sky, then 5, 0, 1. Sky News should now appear.
Never attempt to reconnect the tvLINK cable to the RF Out-2 connector at the back of your Sky box, whilst it is still receiving power from the mains. The tvLINK receives 9 volts from your Sky box and by doing so could cause irreparable damage to the tvLINK. The tvLINK can be connected to the VCR Aerial Input as long as it is also connected to the cable from your Sky box.
